Winter Poem

Each day of a new season makes me feel poetic..very Ralph Waldo Emerson-ish ;) I wrote this poem in about fifteen minutes and didn't allow myself to go back and edit it. Here is a raw amateur poem:

It's the first day of winter
And it's just a splinter
Of the wood-burning season.
I'll be right here freezin'
And yes, there's a reason.
The smell of a fire
Sparks my ire..
A memory of what could have been..
Of what I could have seen.

It's the middle of the holiday period..
A time to think about what we did
For the whole last year.
Overcoming a fear..
Holding someone dear..
Wiping a tear..
Or two..
What to do..
For the whole next year?
Switch to a new gear.
Learn to hear
What we've been ignoring
Because it was boring.
Stand up to the jeer.
Bring friends near.
Remember we're mere-ly human.
Get over the unappreciative men.
Look forward to the time when
Happiness prevails and sadness pales.
The key to success and being our best
Is utilizing what we've been taught
And giving it all we've got.

To the next year of working hard in every aspect of life...
